Mere Curiousity

Last summer I started a design group within my testing group to encourage and develop new designers. I am so proud to announce the release of fellow member and one of my testers, Edith Horn’s first pattern, Mere Curiosity. Edith’s pattern is now available in her Ravelry store and all proceeds from the sales will be donated to UNICEF to help Ukraine. Be sure to check out her other projects on her website.

As the whirlwind of the holidays approach my thoughts turn gratefully to all of you who’ve encouraged and supported me – making life more fulfilling.

To send my thanks, I’m gifting one free pattern of your choice today through December 31, 2022 on Ravelry. Use coupon code ONEFREEPATTERN2022 at checkout at Ravelry or redeem at 📷 https://www.ravelry.com/redeem/a-yarn-of-serendipity.

Sending best wishes to everyone for a joyous holiday season and Happy New Year!🪅

Special Instructions

·  All rnds begin with a standing stitch and end with an invisible join unless another option is available. Some rnds may include instructions for a slst join and if not changing colors, how to start the next rnd. When used, the ch(s) replaces the 1st st shown in the instructions of the rnd.
·  To avoid ending a rnd with a ch sp, some rnds will begin with the 2nd st of a group (ex. 5 tr), and the repeat will end with the 1st st of that group. Example: *(4 tr) in ch-3 sp, ch 1; sk to next ch-3 sp, tr in next ch-3 sp*
·  Round-by-round pictures are also found at the end of the paid written pattern.

Blocking is a great way to put the finishing touches on your square.  It allows you to reach your final shape and size.  It also opens up your stitches, making them even and more defined; giving it a more professional appearance.
You can either wet block or steam block, but always make sure you are careful when steam blocking acrylic yarn.

Head Over Heels Square

Today the phrase “head over heels” means to fall madly in love, but in the 14th century it literally meant to do a somersault.  The first mention of love was made in 1883, and for anyone who’ve been head over heels in love, it is akin to a somersault; the world feels like it’s upside down, your head is spinning, and you know your life will never be the same. 💞

This square is perfect when added with other squares for an afghan blanket, throw pillow, purse or even a tote bag! Your imagination is the only restriction for a creative project.

Symbol Guide

ASTERISKS: * to* repeat instructions between two single asterisks as directed. Example:  *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc); ch 1, sk 2 sts; [dc, ch 1, dc in next st, ch 1, sk 3 sts] 2 times; (dc, ch 1, dc), ch 1, sk 2 sts*; REPEAT FROM * to* 3 MORE TIMES

PARENTHESES: (  ) indicates a group of sts that are worked together in or around the same st. Example:  (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc)

BRACKETS: [  ] repeat instructions within brackets as directed. Example:  [dc, ch 1, dc in dc; ch 1, sk 3 sts] 2 times

COUNT TOTALS: Total chain spaces are included in the st count; corner chain spaces are not included in the total. Example:  Counts: 48 dc, 36 FPtr, 8 ch-2 sp, 4 ch-2 corner sp (100 total/25 per side)

Special Instructions

  • All rnds begin with a standing stitch and end with an invisible join unless noted otherwise.
  • To avoid ending a rnd with a ch sp, some rnds will begin with the 2nd st of a group (ex. 5 tr), and the repeat will end with the 1st st of that group. Example: *(4 tr) in ch-3 sp, ch 1; sk to next ch-3 sp, tr in next ch-3 sp*
